And his son's grave 15 years after his death? I am curious about reliable sources that give information about these two incidents.

The only things I could find on this very interesting question was in a Unitarian Universalist blurb on his life and in a Unitarian sermon called "Divine Love". They both say he walked from Roxbury to Concord every day to his first wife Ellen's grave because he was so distraught after her death and that, two years after her death, he finally had the grave opened so that he could see for himself that she was truly dead. The links are below. I found nothing on his opening the grave of his son.
