Pedantic is either ostentatious or overly concerned with minute details. Shallow is lacking in depth or substance (usually focusing on surface appearance).

Shallow is to have a lack of personality, and to only be concerned with those things that are superfluous. Pedantic means to be obsessively concerned with the minute details in the lives of oneself and of others.

Pedantic is fften used to describe a person who emphasizes his/her knowledge through the use of vocabulary; ostentatious in one’s learning.

Shallow people usually place excessive value on the appearance of something, sometimes judging themselves and others entirely by their looks, which gives the impression of vanity and arrogance even though they may possess neither of these attributes.
