Probably because they are trying to gain points. Am new to this so don't know what the points will get me so am currently only answering questions that interest me.

I have read it carefully - I am a person on this site - I haven't thought about it too much so perhaps that is where we are going wrong. My fingers are working but my brain isn't in gear. perhaps I need some time off from the screen and go and solve a few pages of the binomial theorem.

did you ever stop to think that it might not be because they don't read the question, or think about it, but that they interprete it in a way that differs from what the asker meant? huh? :-P

why? they are human and humans answer before listening, can be very dangerous. myself studying psychology always look at the question and if i cant answer i will not do so.
