First of all, is this for a boy or a girl?
I know for a boy they love video games, but your question is so vague I wouldn't know what types to recommend.
They are probably starting to love music at this age(girl or boy) You could give them a gift for itunes if they have an ipod, or a gift certificate to best buy. Or for a girl if they are girly, some make-up or a gift certificate to a clothing store. If they are not girly, maybe some of the ideas I gave for a boy.
But really, you can never go wrong with cash or gift certificates, at this age they love to spend money and feel like an adult in making their own decision on what they buy.

Books. Many kids now-a-days don't read and unfortunately video games do not expand the imagination or vocabulary. Children who don't read are at a disadvantage in life.
There are some great fantasy books out there for 10 year olds. Dragons, magic....I just purchased the Inkheart books for a 9 year old. Cornelia Funke is an amazing storyteller!

Depends, boy or girl? What is their level of maturity? What kinds of things are they into? It's important to know these things. You might be best off with a gift card.

a good present would be a ps3 because it can play ps2 and ps1 games on it (and ps3 games of course) it has blue ray for high definition game experience and if you play a ps2 or ps3 game with online features you don't need a ethernet adapter to connect online to play the online features a ps3 comes with a built in internet games acess

a pack of smokes and some beer..... J/K, well what is it a boy or girl? Just get em a gift cert from Toys r us or best buy or something. but pick up some candy too.

for a boy I would say an i pod for a girl i would say a poster of a male singer or makeup,lipgloss,or a name plate or her name on earings.A name plate is a necklace with her name on it.
