I started dancing when I was in first grade. I was very close to my left split and if I pushed myself I would've had it. My right split was ok. I didn't really apply myself over the next few years. I grew a lot and they were still ok. I got mad at myself over the summer and I stretched fo about an hour to two hours a day. I got my left split and I'm very close to my right. I guess it depends on your muscles. Like if I don't stretch for a week, they'll be horrible and it'll take me about three days of intensive stretching to get them back. I have a friend who always has her oversplits, she doesn't have to stretch, its just the way her muscles are. I hope this helped.

I was able to get all the way down in three days after doing teh butterfly stretch throughout the day.
How to do the butterfly stretch:
Sit on the floor with the soles of you feet pressed together. Keep your abs in and lean forward until you feel a gentle stretch in your inner thighs.

Hold the stretch until the tension in the muscle group is relaxed, this may take approximately 20 to 45 seconds.

Relax and repeat

i use to have a flat split after i had been dancing for 4 years then i did tap dancing for two years were you don't need to know how to do a split so now i started doing more than jazz and from lack of practice in my 7th year of dancing i can not do a a split it really is sad. but i know a lot of girls who just dance in class who haven't been dancing along time maybe only three years or two who can't do a split but to get into competition doing a split is mandatory . Or at least it usually is that way.

I would watch t.v and just try and sit in my splits.

After about a month, I was able to do a split on one side.

It took me only about 2 weeks to get the other side, since it was easier than starting from scratch. (Meaning that since I did the other side, one leg was already stretched, and I just needed to stretch one leg instead of two)

it took me about a month for side splits and like 3 for middle splits lol just keep stretching and you'll get it. for side splits try sitting in a deep lunge on each side for a while... um for middle splits, if you're aren't close like at all, sit up against a wall with your legs in a v and every couple of minutes just scoot closer, do that every day and it'll come pretty fast
