When I make a secure payment online I only see Http:// instead of Https:// what does this mean?

It means that the payments aren't REALLY secure. For this vendor, you should find ways of paying them other than online.

HTTP = HyperText Transfer Protocol - regular browsing

HTTPS = HyperText Transfer Protocol, Secure - what you should see in the browser address window if you're doing anything that involves payments or personal information

What it means is that it is NOT a secure payment. Do not send any critical information to an http site.

Then your 'payment' is not necessarily secure.

https:// ( with the padlock symbol on the status bar ),
means that all sensitive data transferred from the
client to the web server / payment gateway, and back
is encrypted ( scrambled ) to keep it safe from prying
eyes.

http:// means that all data is transferred in plain
ASCII text.
