I am not trying to do anything specifically, I just want to find out why I get a funky arrowhead shaped thing instead of a line when I try to use it.

I can't find the option to change it from an arrow shape to a line shape.

Thanks

Jason

You didn't mention what version of Photoshop you have, anyway in Photoshop CS2 when you click on the Line tool the Options bar above shows Line options: click on the Line icon (the first one) on the Options bar, then click on the small round button on the right and, on the menu that pops up, click on Reset Tool and your line tool is a line again.

I think the easiest way to create a line and know it's going to work, is to choose the top left box on the toolbar - at the top center of the page, you'll see a drop down box for style - click on it and choose fixed size - For width: choose however many pixels you want - example: 450 px For height: choose 1 px (this means it will be thin) if I want it thicker - increase the height...

The other way to do this is in the toolbar - you'll see the arrow, a text icon - below the text icon is the photoshop shapes...select that...underneath the file menus, you'll see a bunch of shape options - choose the single line one (should be between the polygon and the star) If you wanted more shapes - click the star and to the right, you'll see a pulldown for shapes, there you can choose other shapes.

Hope that helps;)

I'm going to watch this question carefully because, as a long time Photoshop user, I can't get my line tool to create arrows so I can't tell you how to undo it. I hope someone else can help because I'd like to learn how to make arrows with the line tool. Sorry I can't be of any help. Good luck!

if you look on the top menu next to the two pen tips are a series of shapes..a square curved edge square, oval, etc. At the end there is an arrow that points down. Click on that and a menu pulls down that says arrow heads. This turns the arrows on and off in photoshop cs5
