I recently saw the captioner type "effin' cry" for what Stewie was singing in the opening of Family Guy.
I put it on during some of the shows because I couldn't understand what was being said due to a heavy accent, etc. The spelling is sometimes bad and they have incorrect words, backspace as they type and sometimes just skip entire sections to catch up. Sometimes it's a hoot!

I also rely somewhat on the captioning as I am deaf in one ear and losing hearing in the other. I agree, people talk very fast for real-time typing, I took shorthand in highschool - not quite the same, but...
If a person relies solely on the captioning, sometimes they could be out of luck. But technology is always improving!!!

I can't watch TV without captions. It's not that I'm hard of hearing, but when I don't have it on, I never seem to be able to understand what they're saying. XD; Some of the actions are really funny, the way they're worded...I was watching Kim Possible once, and at some point or another, Rufus gets bearhugged, and in brackets, it said: [squishy squeak]. For some reason that really cracked me up. Hahaha.

Another time I was watching Lost with one of my friends, and when Sawyer and Kate first kiss, Sawyer made a little noise, and it came up

Saywer: Mm.

Sometimes the weirdest things can make me laugh...

I work for a captioning company and, while the mistakes that go out on live closed captions may be hilarious to us hearing folk, spare a thought for two seconds for a) the deaf and hard-of-hearing people who wouldn't understand anything without them and b) the people doing the closed captions in real-time who are having to type, steno or re-speak at speeds of more than 180 words per minute (the fastest most people can type on a normal keyboard is 80 wpm).

i replaced into watching something by close-captioning the different day because the sound high quality replaced into very negative (it replaced right into a production by technique of an particularly small Oregon PBS station, interestingly). They kept declaring the guy's call about whom they were conversing; i could not understand what they stated, and interestingly neither might want to the guy doing the close-captioning. They kept putting the guy's first call in elementary words even as the narrator said his finished call. finally, the guy's call got here up on demonstrate screen, and after that, the close-captioner protected his very last call. I see plenty of misspelling and phonetic blunders, yet i imagine that's partly because they use a gadget that's comparable to the gadget used for court docket reporting, and it would not continuously artwork so nicely. i visit't imagine having to get stuff on the demonstrate screen in actual time!

There is a lot of controversy over what Stewie says during the open titles. Some think "Laugh and Cry," but others say "Effin' Cry." I think the creator probably meant "Effin' Cry."

Anyway, yea, I'm glad I'm not deaf because I would be so confused by that. It's whatever the person types on the teleprompter and I don't think they are as careful as they should be.

Sometimes I'll put it on if I really want to remember what people have said, depending on the type of movie or program.

Because I speak Spanish, I will often turn on the captions when I'm watching Univison, and very often I can learn new words that way.

I love to have it on, even though the other people that I watch TV with think it's annoying.

As for the Family Guy caption, he used to say "effin' cry" but they had to change it to "laugh and cry" because some crybabies complained about it.

Yes
It is funny and sad
Close caption leaves much out
I really feel sorry for the people who need to use it.
Many jokes in a commedy get ruined because of poor captions

Its really great on Fox News too. Difficult to take the "depressing" news too seriously when you see these constant typos and the "skipping sections" you talked about
