I know normally it takes 14 days for a woman to ovulate from the day her period starts. I started my period Jan 22. and still havent ovulated (its been 24 days) is that alright? Should i continue taking ovulation tests until I get a surge or should I go to the dr. ? Does anyone else take this long.

Im not sure how long it normally takes for me to ovulate. I recently stopped breastfeeding didnt have a period during that time.

There is a WIDE variation in normal ovulation. Quite a few of us do not ovulate 14 days after a period- that si just an average and doesn't necessarily apply to you.

Stress can delay or prevent ovulation. ( When a woman's period is late due to stress, it is the phase prior to ovulation that was longer, not the period between ovulation and menstruation ( the luteal phase) once a woman does ovulate, her luteal phase is pretty consistent and will not be delayed by stress.)

If you are just recovering from breastfeeding, your cycle may take a long time to get back to normal. So 24 days is not all that long.

If you don't want to waste money on all those ovulation strips, try using a software like Ovusoft or Fertility Friend (FF is free) which can help you determine when you ovulate by tracking your temperature and cervical fluid. I also recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Own Fertility."

Your ovulation may be off due to the nursing. If you get AF this month and never got a true ++OPK than nost likely you didn't ovulate (I read where a typical woman does NOT O every single cycle), but I've also read where those things don't work for everyone so if you're concerned you should use them in conjunction with charting (taking your temp every AM).

You wouldn't be regular yet - so soon after finishing breastfeeding. Also, not every woman ovulates every single month.

Also, ovulation tests are not always that accurate. I was using them to try and pin point my ovulation and never got a positive - however I fell pregnant that month!

Well, are you trying to get pg again??? If so, you may want to check with a fertility specialist.... not all women ovulate on the same day... you should wait a few more days first. It looks like your son is young - if the pic is recent - your hormones are still adjusting to your pregnancy, etc...
Give it time.
I never ovulated on my own. I have something called PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)... I had to get a Dr involved so I could get pg and ended up with twins. :-)

Since you just stop breastfeeding I know from experience that it took me a while to start back ovulating.. I would ask the doctor but i know that my doctor said that was my problem after I stopped breastfeeding my twins...
Good Luck
