An educated American who speaks English should know that the word 'rubbish' means 'trash' or 'garbage'. This is just another example of vocabulary differences, or choices between the US and the UK. One says 'sidewalk', the other says 'pavement'. One says 'biscuits', the other says 'cookies'. And one says 'elevator', the other 'lift'. I do not see anything negative about using either word. Things like this happen not just across countries, but also in different regions of the same country. Choice of vocabulary is a cultural aspect.

Most of the educated Americans know that it means "trash" or "garbage". Rubbish just isn't a commonly used word in America.

The only time I have heard other Americans refer to "rubbish" is when talking about what's on TV

basically positioned, the word "rubbish" isn't well-known in usa, except we are impersonating the British (a exceedingly uncomplicated teenage previous time). (: I truthfully have in no way even heard previous human beings use it, despite if that's related to rubbish/trash or something that's rubbish as in untrue or bogus.

Of course we do. Rubbish is garbage (literally) or it's also used in place of "ridiculous".

I know it. I think it's kind of an "old fashioned" word. Most people say trash or garbage. But - my Great Grandma used to say it. I don't use it - but I know what it means.
