I was telling that guy at work about how my grandmother died and that my grandfather died a few month later, etc and about how I lost my aunt...

He told me that my life sounds like a soap opera...Is that offensive? Did he just trying to show compassion or he meant that he didn't believe me?

sometimes I think my life is like a soap opera. I think he just meant that much tragedy usually happens in your average soap opera.

i don't think he was trying to be offensive. also, i think more lives sound soap opera-y then actually are. most lives are just regular. when told in recap, they aren't that interesting.

Well, he was saying that you have a lot of drama in your life. Maybe you telling more than he wants to hear. We call women that do that drama queens. Maybe back off telling him so much personal stuff. Just being honest.

It is a bit offensive.

What he was trying to say (albeit badly) that your life runs very maudlin and a bit contrived, as we see in those soap operas.

I feel sorry for your loss and hope that you are able to cope with it
