This happened to me recently when I was coming back from lunch. I was very full, so I couldn't walk overly fast. Anyway, One that was taller than me and possibly lighter came up to me and put both his hands on my chest with his fingers on my v-neck. He asked for money, saying he was very hungry. But, I shook my head and walked away. It felt ickky as his hands moved from my chest to my arm. I was sleeveless and his hands were freezing. I then jerked free, but he grabbed hold of my arm. I screamed and he let me go.

1.) Carry a large can of pepper spray. use liberally.
2.) Commandeer a large, scary looking dog. threaten said homeless person.
3.) Consider spending a few pence you find lying down the back of your sofa which you don't need and give them food (NOT money.)
Money= drugs+dead homeless corpse.
Food= happier (Alive) homeless person + personal warm fuzzy feeling for helping another human being.
4.) Kick them in their genitals. You'd be surprised how fast they'll let go.
5.)From a moral point of view i suppose you could volunteer to help in a soup kitchen.

It doesn't matter if the person is homeless or not.. if someone grabs you or pushes you that way, you can just push that hand away. It's normal to get a little freaked out, since it is sudden. But stay calm and tell them 'sorry, I can't help you today.' And walk away. If they try to grab you again, you can push back, telling him to let go, strongly, and firmly.
I think you need to be firm and mean it when you say it. Look directly into his eyes and say 'Back Off!'.
And it would be good to avoid getting near them if possible - be aware of your surroundings, especially when the streets are empty. Awareness is key to prevention of muggings and assaults. If you are aware, you can avoid trouble.

This is agressive panhandling and it is illegal. It is also assault (anytime someone puts their hands on you without your say so). You should have gotten the Police involved. The previous poster had a good idea about using Purell Hand sanitizer. I tutor homeless youngsters and one of our students had a case of ringworm that he gave to one of the tutors who hugged him. Hugs are part of the job so I usually use some Purell before my sessions.
When you are walking in these areas, establish some space. If someone moves towards you, especially if you don't get a good feeling, move away about 6 inches. Everytime this "personal space" is infringed upon, move some more.

Two words: Stun baton.
You should not have to endure an assault from anyone.
Some guy tries to touch you, the sight of that crackling electricity will make him back off. Or, a little jolt just under the ribs, followed by a kick to the groin. He'll be heaving up his Mad-dog 20/20 in no time.

It sounds like you were a victim of a minor assault, which could have turned into something more serious if you hadn't screamed. I suggest that you report the matter to the police. They will be able to keep a look out in the area, just in case the person tries something harder on someone less able than you.

There r so many homeless people.There just like me & u.Many of them had it all once & hit hard times.It's no reason 2 b scared.I never give out money.However,I have handed out cigs.If somebody tells me that there hungry.Alot of times I have offered 2 buy them something 2 eat.I'll bring it bk 2 them.It culd really happen 2 any of us.Think about it...

Screaming and attracting attention to yourself immediately was a good instinct.
It will work nearly every time, unless someone seriously intends you harm without fear of the consequences.

Well, for one, a good, clean bath would help. If this problem persists, contact your local authorities. Keeping mace would also be helpful for any dangerous situation.

I would recommend using a healthy amount of Purell hand sanitizer to clean yourself off.
And then remember not to vote for the republicans who refuse to address the problem of homelessness.
