however it works just fine when i wnat to listen to music. But when i want to burn something music or even doing as simple as putting pictures onto the cd. It says that ther is no disk in that drive. I've done this before on my lap top, my desktop computer is acting the same way all of the sudden I just dont get it.

do i need to enable something? when i put everything to be burned i do the same routine to burn stuff onto the cd. when push burn or copy files to CD. this thing pops up saying that there is NO DISK IN THE DRIVE. GRRR Ive tried CD-R, CD-RW's DUAL layered ones. The drive doesnt detect any of them and they are new blanks straight out of the box. unless data is already on it.

Possibly defective drive? maybe the lasers went bad.. you can try disconnecting the CD and then connect it again ..

When you do not have your burning program running and insert a blank CD does your drive see it?
To check this out insert a blank CD wait a moment and then go to My Computer and right click on the drive and select properties.
There it should show 700MB of free space if you are using a CDR.
If it shows the properties, then your burning program is at fault. if it doesn't show the properties, then it is your CD-RW drive is at fault.

Sometimes you can delete your CD-RW drive and then reboot the computer to correct a fault with the drive.
To do this right click My Computer and go to properties, then go to the Hardware Tab, there click Device Manager. Find your drive under IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS, by clicking the little "+" sign if you have more than one, right click the drive and select delete, then reboot your computer and windows will reinstall the drive.
This seems to fix many CD-RW drive problems.

This happened to me once. Soon, I realized that I was using a plain CD drive, not a burner.
Once you're absolutely certain it's a CD Burner, check If you have burned to the CD (or unsuccessfuly tried to burn to the CD). This makes it essentialy impossible to burn again.
If neither of those work, try updating your drivers. The driver data was corrupted on one of my old PCs.
I hope you fix it!

Sounds like the burn program is missing or corupted, get a program like NERO it works with all burners. It is easy to use. Search internet for a copy or goto a software store and buy a burner program.
