I am 55, and I faced the same problem as you some 10 years back after I folded my own company due to poor collection of funds. Fortunately I was able to recover a good percentage of them which was more than enough to cover my own debts.

Sourcing for a job was difficult although I have vast experience in import and export business and banking and travelled widely.

Reason was either I was too matured than my impending supervisor, or too qualified for the job. That is despite tha fact that I asked for lesser pay.

I went back into my own business again. Now I am doing quite comfortable. I put to use my experience as well as contacts. Here and there I picked up some small businesses for export.

In these days, experiences are likely to be sidelined. Your earning power ios over, and you have to create them yourself.

My first suggestion is get rid of the notion that you can learn a prestigious position that pays well in two weeks. Not gonna happen, jobs that pay well take 6 months minimum to understand. Most employers assume they will lose money off a new hire for the first year, no matter how good they are.

Second, look for a company that is smaller and needs some gray hair to help them grow. You said you started two companies, were they successful? If so, you should be able to relay all that financial and sales experience to a small companies advantage.

Third, I am assuming you say your aren't a good writer because your resume doesn't look so hot? Grab the neighbor who has an administrative career to reformat your resume to something attractive. Make them dinner or mow their yard in exchange.

I am in your age group also. You will not get a prestigious position and income in a job that you can learn in two weeks or less. I have spent 34 years in my career and worked my way up.

A prestigious position with its commensurate income will require good writing skills among other things, such as attitude.

I would suggest focusing on the career field you are interested in, and finding out all that you can about it. If you need to take classes at your local college, by all means, do so! You are never too old to learn.

Good luck.

Yeah, I agree. You really need to drop the attitude.
You invite ridicule when you start off with comments like that.

The best advice I can give is to network.
Go out and find friends.
Somebody that can help you find employment.
Maybe try the unemployment office.

It's either that, or hang around on the internet and be ridiculed?
Your choice.

P.S.

Mid 20s here. Been looking for work since May 06. About 20 interviews no jobs. Either I fail the personality test or I don't get a call back. Yes you are right capitalism does suck!!!!!!

2 years ago in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum Bill Gates stated that capitalism in its current state can't survive for more than 10-15 yrs. According to him it needs to be more democratic or revolt could follow and not just in third world countries but everywhere and I agree.

BS in Business Administration from a good state 4-yr university, no drugs, and no alcohol.

I don't think times get tough in the US until you're late forties or early 50s-just when we thought life would really get good (lol), things get really tough. 50 is considered the earning peak age so I wouldn't count on a job equivalent to what you've had. Personally, I cancelled my $600 a month health insurance, sold my house, and live very simply these days. This hamster jumped off the wheel. Yes, I understand. I,too, thought if you work hard, get an education, pay taxes, obey the law, save for retirement...it all turns out. A friend who has "good" insurance has terminal cancer, and so far owes $27,000 for her "care"(2 months).

My advice would be:cut your costs, live cheaply, and concentrate on being happy-maybe start a small business you can enjoy. Lots of ideas on the internet but watch for scams. Good luck!

If it grow to be a organic Capitalist Society, in trouble-free terms those who use the facilities would pay for them, yet in the u . s . of america, because it grow to be depending, the structure is sparkling how those facilities will be paid, taxes. the position the objections come is at the same time as Capitalism will grow to be the villain and freeloaders the victims. keep in suggestions the early American settlement, at the same time as some settlers suggested they did not prefer to paintings for the settlement, they were informed they did no longer ought to yet they does no longer percentage in the benefits both--that coated food, water, shield or protection. that they had a call, paintings or no longer, they chosen paintings considering they needed the benefits the paintings delivered. immediately we've thanks to many in u . s . of america who want the benefits without the paintings required. hence the "Socialist/Marxist" references. those who opt for no longer to paintings, nonetheless get the benefits--that is not any longer a Capitalist Society.

As a younger employer I can tell you that the main problem is that people in your age group say that you want to be taught to do something but instantly tell us "kids" that we do not know what we are doing; you need to respect the person giving you the job not disrespect them due to their youth...we are intelligent as well.

Too bad. Most people including myself are doing fine. Hard work, education and desire can always land you a job in America. Tghe problem is that people think they are actually more qualifed then they really are. So they hold for jobs they will never get.

If you hate it, move out..
