The answer is complex.

Many radio stations, as matter of corporate policy, will not play songs send it by listeners. They have clear policies about how a song is considered. In part, to avoid the corruption and scandals that were not uncommon in the 50's. Also, "top 40" stations like to keep it that way.

However, some are willing to do this. Stations operating within the law, however, will need to know that they have a legal copy of the CD and that the owner of the copyright has given permission. So, they'll need permission from Southborder and/or their label to play it.

College stations and the like tend to care less about these things. However, if Southborder's lawyers want to sue, they could have the station's license revoked.

Best thing to do is to contact Southborder and ask them to give explicit permission for rebroadcast of their CD on radio. Then, when you call a station manager, you can include a copy of this permission. It'll make your request seem more legit and serious. Expect to be turned down by some. But you just might find a station that will play the music.

Most commercial radio stations run by what is called Payola, or Pay to Play, even if they dont admit it. Big record labels want to make sure the artists signed under contract make them money, so in turn, they influence radio stations to play their music. Record labels pay radio stations to play their songs. This is why you never hear artists with great songs who are unsigned, or signed to small labels. So, sorry but there is no chance that a song you made, as great as it may be, would be played on a commercial radio station. Just an example of what's wrong with the music industry today.

Most radio stations are bound by the FCC and their owners to play certain things. Any pirate stations or stations that specialize in new acts would be the best way to go. Most stations that do this are doing it by style so if you're a metal band, find the metal station that's doing it; if you're hip-hop, find the hip-hop station with new acts, etc.

No, they won't play unsolicited music. You should request the songs and see if they have them already.
