If that is what you want to call it. Many people have other terms they like to use.

Even though we should not even have to go that far it seems we have to explain all the time why we live our lives they way we do and we are all the same.

We are often publicly ridiculed, belittled. Coming out takes a toll on many family's and friends simply because society thinks we are not the norm.

It is something like a person in the family marrying someone not of their religion and being thought of as a disgracing the family tradition. When the only thing the person wants is true love and will be with that person no matter what other people think.

It is simply being true to yourself. However, doing so in some states, or at work in certain professions, might be considered a badge of courage.

I think it is. I am not gay but I know quite a few people who are and I saw the toll it took on their families when they came out. Gay people have to suck it up and take a lot of crap from their families and peers when they come out, but still so many do, and that is because they are brave enough to face that to be honest about themselves

its a 'badge of courage' because its hard to admit to who you are and you take a lot of static for it.

I personally have more respect for someone who is out and honest- than someone who is hiding, but says they are alright with who they are.
