Their are two problems with this set-up

The Pentium 4 if you use more than 128MB memory in your computer it will start using the hard disk's pagefile which will cripple your computer after a while.

The Pentium III it can handly the bigger files and programs easier and if you use all the memory on this 256MB Memory and on the Pentium 4 too then the Pentium III will come out on top.

I recommend that you put more memory in the Pentium 4 based computer 512MB I recommend and you will be fine.

The III will be faster.
The model doen't do much, the memory is all that matters. A pentium 2 with 256 memory could beat the pentium 4.

The pentium 4 would be faster and would be cheaper in the long run as all you would have to upgrade is the memory.

1.8 with 128 will be faster depending on the operating system. If it were on Win98 the 1.8 would destroy the PIII with 256mb, if it were winXP the gap would be much less.

If you are asking which one you should buy, I would say hands down the 1.8 with 128Mb of memory because you can always buy more memory.
