A baby is considered only viable at 24 weeks, so unless it was fairly large for it's gestation then they would be unlikely to try and do anything. A child born before and around 24 weeks has not only a slim chance of surviving, but an extremely slim chance of not being brain damaged.
If you suspect for a second you might be going into labour get to hospital as soon as you can, ring an ambulence if you need to. If a baby is going to come early they can give an injection to strengthen the lungs that will increase the chances of survival hugely, also, there are some preventative measures that can be taken, though they are not always successful.
Premature labour is not that common, though stress can be a factor in it, so try and relax.
For your baby to have a significant chance of survival you need to get to 28 weeks AT LEAST, though 30 would be best.Over 34 weeks is classed as full term anyway.
A day in the womb is worth a week in a incubator.

Hi, It depends on how the baby responded to treatment when it was born and where you are in the world. Statistically the baby would have a very poor chance of survival and higher risk of disabilities. However, some babies do survive at this gestation and have no problems.
You can look up info on www.bliss.org.UK as there are new guidelines in the uk.
I really wouldn't be stressing about something if they have not told you that this is a risk. While it is good to have all the info available it is no good for you to be worrying. Put your feet up and try not to worry - they really would have said to you if they were worried or taken you in.
Good luck with your pregnancy, I hope that your symptoms ease and I hope you get to 37+

After 12 weeks your chance of miscarriage drops dramatically, unfortunely it never goes away completely. At 24 wks they say is the earliest a baby can survive outside the womb, but I would assume that at 22 weeks they would still do whatever they could to save the baby.

After 20 weeks, there is no such thing as miscarriage; if you go into labour and the child doesn't survive, it is called "stillbirth." It is highly unlikely, particularly if you have no concerns.
Hospitals have different policies, but the earliest recorded survival has been a baby born at 22 weeks. The other poster is likely mistaken about the dates of her nephew as no child has survived born at 20 weeks. Risks of complications are high, but as the poster pointed out, miracles do happen.

My nephew was born at 20 weeks. His eyes were still sealed, and his hands and feet were still webbed. He was as tiny as a cell phone.
Today, he is a handsome and vibrant 8 year old boy. The only lasting effect of his prematurity is that he has to wear a leg brace at night, and that is only for another few months.
Miracles happen. But at this point, your chances of miscarriage are very low. Dont worry, many women are very sick thru their entire pregnancies, even bedridden, and still deliver totally normal babies. If you have any concerns talk to your doctor. God bless, and dont stress!

There have been children delivered at this stage and have survived but their progress is blighted by a myriad of problems and they tend not to develop like a full term baby...deafness, blindness, Brain damage etc.. are all symptoms that the baby would most probably suffer, and unfortunately much worse, I don't think many doctors would fight to save the life of such a prem baby..which is very sad, but who's to say which is kindest... not a debate I want to enter... chin-up and don't worry yourself with such things if it doesn't really effect you . good luck

I dont think that theres a high chance ov u miscarrying at 22 weeks and if the doctors thought you had a chance ov some thing happening they would have kept you in hospital to keep an eye in you

The chance of miscarriage is slim to none. They would not try to save the baby until after 24 weeks or viability. I had my water break at 23 weeks 6 days and they told me they wouldn't save her. Thankfully it sealed itself and I was able to carry her to term. You say you are having problems? IM me if you want. Good luck

I don't think that the baby would be able to live that early. And it is very slim it would happen, even more so slim that everything is going great. Congrats on your baby!!!
