Yup my Teddy Bear hamster does it all the time. She's collecting her bed to make her more comfortable. She'll get it out herself so don't try to take it out for her! It's a normal hamster thing! She'll also put food in there and other items she'll find useful. It's quite interesting to watch. Don't worry about her, she's fine.

We have a male hamster and he gets his tubes packed with bedding too. We remove the "jam" whenever we see it. I'm afraid he'll get stuck in his nestbox and be unable to get to his food & water.

I found that certain types of bedding don't seem to clog. So you might try different beddings. I generally use a handfull of pillow batting in his nestbox... it's the only thing that seems to stay in the box and not in the tube. Be careful that it's not a stringy type though, if your female puts it in her cheeks (females often do this to form a nest... my male doesn't).

Yes I've had two female hamsters and every time I cleaned out the bedding they would go at it and pack up their tube. They're "making the bed" so to speak.

It is normal for hamsters to do that, they like to move their bedding to an area that they feel comfortable and secure in. Your hamster obviously likes to live in tight spaces. He should be fine, they wouldn't make the tubes for hamsters if they didn't have enough air in them. My hamster likes to sleep in the transport cage in his ovo suite. No matter where I put the bedding, he just moves it back. Also, air circulates so no matter where he is in the cage, he will have enough air to breathe. Good Luck, leave him there :D

Yeah, they do that. The first time I saw it I thought it was dead! They like it there though. Feel the difference in the temp of the tube where they are and the rest of the tube! A big difference.

Yes, it's cold outside. If you want, you can throw a blanket over her cage to keep the heat in, but this is normal as their ancestors buried in the ground for a more normal temperature.
