Government doesn't care, as we saw after Katrina. But some people are great at caring for those in need.

In a way yes, and in a another way no. Though we compete with each other within the economy, in the long run, we are ALL made better off. A flawed assumption people make about economics is that the economy is like a vegas casino. In a casino, for a player to win, the house, or someone else must lose the same amount of money. BUT, in econ, it's not a zero-sum game. There may be losers in the short-run due to competition, but our entire economic pie is constantly getting bigger.

Only through this competition do we find gains in productivity throughout the economy as a whole.

Our capitalistic system is made possible and successful due to this "me against the world" attitude. People seek what is best for them, and in typical market fashion, we reach a equilibrium point at which the country as a whole is better off.

But, should we feel that it's a cut-throat competition where loser says die? nope. not at all. there room for economic growth for everyone. just remember that our current measure of the poverty line is an income(of course everything adjusted for inflation) that was only achieved by the top 10% incomes 100 years ago. We are all better off than our parents were and as long as the growth continues, our kids will be better off than us.

In a way, sure! notwithstanding, it isn't through my personal volition. My authorities is making me hated through the entire international. They take my money and factors it to different international locations, purely so the politicians can pass round making like Santa. get rid of the recent the Aristocracy, it truly is our political company called congress, and it may well be more beneficial efficient for all individuals. purely seem at what we've spent in Iraq so a lengthy way, about four hundred billion money. that would nicely be sufficient to pay off the nationwide debt, positioned medicare lower back on it ft, and assure social safe practices for yet another one hundred years.
