I am allergic to most chemicals and my clothes shrink in my uncontrollable dryer. Is there anything natural I can put in the wash to soften my clothes because when I hang them to dry they get they stiff and I have a weird skin arthritis condition called Psoriatic Arthritis and most chemicals really do damage to my flesh. So anything natural I can add to the wash or rinse cycle would be great! Thanks.

You can throw a tennis ball in the dryer - that really does work to soften the clothes obviously without any scent. Seventh Generation is a good company to look to for completely scent free fabric softener - or try your local Health/Natural Food Center....

Add a cup or two of baking soda to the wash water. It helps soften hard water.

Add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. It helps break down the soap so it rinses out better.

Your ancestors beat the dirt out of their clothes in the river with a rock and they never missed a flight. Fabric softener is not a necessity.
