Do not put warm/hot water on your lawn to melt the snow you will ruin the grass and have possible dead spots. If you are trying to melt ice use cold water instead of hot water, cold water will not freeze as fast as hot water will on the surface. I only figured this out after an ice storm here in Wisconsin.

The water has a much larger heat capacity that a small match. the match will only melt drop or two, the boiling water will melt more.

It probably won't be boiling if it is carried out to the snow due to heat loss.
