The first guy was right and life for some is a curse. One interesting point to be made: contrast differences in personal perceptions the gift of life and life as a curse. Also, you could mention media figures(geniuses) that died prematurely and can no longer contribute their gifts to make our lives more interesting (Kurt Cobain, River Phoenix, Mozart, Mitch Hedberg, Jim Belushi, Chris Farley, Jim Hendrix, and the tragic list goes on). Think how life would have been more interesting had these people held onto the gift of life. Or you could take a religious stance and state life is God's greatest gift and we should cherish it.
2. That's a little bit trickier. Ambiguity of names and how they are assigned to objects. Or google etymology, that oughta help
For some, their names describe exactly what they are (i.e. an Orange) and some names have you wondering how the hell they came up with that. A quick history of the English language is a perfect resource in mining for answers and how they tie to Latin. Cross-cultural differences also. In how some languages have names that are beautiful and how other languages have less than beautiful means for describing something.

There are many different angles you could use on the gift of life.
1. Everyone gets the gift of life, but it's up to you how to utilize it.
2. The Gift of Life - Should Abortion Be Legal?
3. The Gift of Life - Be An Organ Donor
Hope this helps!

A gift of life. Lets think of it from a theological point of view. God gave us a gift by creating us and then allowing us to give life. We should value our lives and the lives of others around us , but the fact is that we dont. We dont love each other like humanity should. We dont take the time to realize that we are wasting the gift that we were given.

Life is truly a gift! If you want to know more about the gift of life consider the blessing of the life of Gianna Jessen. She is someone who was aborted and actually lived through the procedure. As a result of the abortion she ended up with cerebral palsy.
She doesn't live bitterly or resentfully (as the first two posters appear to) but is someone who realizes the value of what it means to be alive with every new day. Thanks to her story, not matter how badly I might consider my day to be going, I do thank God for the very gift of being able to live and breathe. Things are not always as bad as they seem and life is good :).
If you want to learn more about her see the links below. As for your what's in a name question, see the last link. I hope I've helped! ;)

Public Speaking, eh? Get their attention with a NEW ANGLE on an old question - How many GIFTS have you not enjoyed until much later in life? Main narrator in this classic is retelling events of just a couple of years from her youth...(pause to get their eyes and ears on you)...Harper Lee unknowingly presented a model for Family Support?
Asked at Yahoo Answers in category of Social Science; Women's Studies
Author of To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee, set three women around Scout character to help her grow up - Calpurnia/Maudie/Alexandra - this model may have come from the Bible since the South has traditionally embraced it, but Harper Lee may have found a structure for supporting struggling families (with only one parent for example). This basic structure is also found in the natural environment; kingdoms of mineral/plant/animal; roots/branches/leaves of plants; animal head/body/limbs; growing period of formation/growth/completion; gas/liquid/solid forms of matter.
