As opposed to being in a relationship because they actually LOVE the person?
Another way to put it is, is it because they are in love with the person or in love with the attention they get from him/her?

I would say definitely yes. Sometimes I see women go from one relationship right into another one the next day. I don't know about other people, but I need more time than 1 week to get over someone and go into another relationship. But I know for a fact that I don't need attention, matter of fact, I kind of hate attention sometimes, I'm a very very reserved person and don't get into other people's business and definitely don't do things to attract attention.

I remember when I was younger, a lot of my friends thought it was so cool to be in a relationship, to be married and to have someone on their arm,,,well guess what, they're (most of them) all divorced, remarried a couple of times since then. Me? never been married and happily single. I'm alone, but not lonely.

I'd rather be 100% happy and alone, than being with someone and unhappy.

I don't need attention

Yes, because I see so many people jump from one relationship right into another without a second thought.
My best friend jumped from one man to another and then another. She went through three men and two marriages between the ages of 23-26. (She's now 27.) She told me that she just couldn't be single. So, it isn't the man in her life, it is the relationship status. The only time she thinks she's worth anything is when she's with someone. I think that's pretty sad.
If a person can't be alone with him/herself, what could they possibly have to offer another?

I think that many people are looking for attention. That is the point of a relationship. Some times the love that your family gives you is not Enough. but is a totally different thing when you are with some one just so he can buy u gifts.
Love is wonder full remember this

yeah sometimes. i use to be that way. my parents or either some of my family never really cared about me so i would go and find a relationship just to know that some people actually care about me. but im not like that now. but i do know that some people do go into relationships just for someone else to pay attention to them

Yes. Especially if they don't have much close friends. Besides being in a relationship can make someone feel special.

I'm sure most relationships have some of that... but so what? Everyone likes getting attention.

Yes absolutely! I have been there before and vowed never to do it again. Your not really happy at all and it ends up going down the drain eventually.

Yes my former friend went into a relationship with a felon when her bf was under house arrest and needed her to take him to work and be his slave.

oh, yes, lots of folks just can't stand to be alone. they will settle for a superficial relationship just to forgo lonelyness, sad, really. and guys (some girls too) just want sex. this whole human experiment has gone very wrong.

Possibly a mix of both, however, this would seem to border on a form of co-dependency
