Hi sweetie. I know a 14 year old who has a mum that drinks far too much. It's awful seeing your mum in that state - very awful. Does she get aggressive, say nasty things, twist round what's going on, so suddenly you are supposed to be blame? Yeh, I guess that's what's going on. You wanna help her, but don't know how but more importantly, you wanna it just to stop so you can have your mom back, so you can survive? Does she try to hide her drinking from other people? Does she drink all the time? Or just a lot, some of the time? Either way, your mom needs some help, yeh? & so do YOU!
I don't know how old you are. If you are under 16, could you phone the social services? Explain what's going on... ask them to help you. Do that especially if your mum hits or bashes you!
If you're over 16, is there anyone in your family you trust, that you can talk to? Is there anywhere else you can stay? Does your mom have a best friend you could contact? Where's your dad? Where's your gran? There must be someone - a good neighbour who is an adult, who could look up information for you...
Just make sure you are clear on this: This is NOT your fault. It's more likely she has money worries, or something such as that, OK?
DON'T blame yourself, no matter what your mum says - she is probably just making excuses... cos that's what tends to happen.
& you DON'T have to suffer this!
If it's been going on for quite a while now, consider leaving, if you can. Find somewhere SAFE where you think you'll be happier, so you can get on with your life- make progress, & help her from a distance. If your mum refuses to get help, & she carries on drinking, her condition will worsen- & you don't want to go down with her... that would be too much for you to cope with...
If you want, if you think I could help, email me, OK? I'll do whatever I can, OK?
In the meantime, hold on tight to your dreams XX

if i had of answered this question last year i would of said yes to the alcoholic but but not the *****. you should never call your mother that. my mum was drunk every night and i mean done my bloody head in and i was always shouting at her when she was drunk. but last year when she was drunk she fell down the stairs and hit her head, which caused pressure on the brain and a lot of swelling on the brain which could not be stopped and the next day i had to turn her life support machine of!! so i know what you may be going through but please don't speak about your mum like that you don't know what is round the corner.

Thankfully no, but Alcoholics Anonymous also helps families of alcoholics if you need to talk to someone.

My daughter has - and I really could not care.
No, back to reality here - and when they have had too much to drink they become such know-it-all's (as if they aren't trying to rule your marriage when they are sober)
It must be very difficult - chin up - and send her packing when she becomes too much.

No, and I'm sorry for your family, can you get an adult to convince her to seek treatment ? Good luck to you and your family.

I don't, but I have known people in that position and they seem to have been helped by "Al-Anon."
