That does seem stupid and irrelevant, and if someones answer to the question is just a spelling remark, then it is also ridiculous. But, this is an old question of what is more important: content or the form of it. It's really an ancient question and both sides have had good arguments about it. I think that content of an expression is of the most importance because we express to share our ideas or feelings with others. On the other hand, if expression would only exist like such, with no form, it would be chaotic. Form is a base for aesthetic perception of things and content is the emotional and rational heart of things. Together, they give what could be a perfect picture of communication, and that's why both are important.
P.S. - most of the people that complain about the spelling are, let alone what was said above, just d!ckheads who do not know a real answer to a question!!!

Because it is beaten into us that it is important. BUT the people that are not going to take you seriously because of the way your spell there, their and they're, I don't waste my time with anyways.
I am a horrible speller. This does not mean I am dumb or my opinion counts less. This just means maybe I have an issue with spelling. Or in my case, I've found other things to be more important to waste my time on.

Yea basically if you want to win your 10 points you've got to make your anwser look proffesianl by using capitals, full stops etc.
To be honsted I think it's lame, if i ask a question i never pick a anwser with perfect capitals spelling and all that rubbish :D:D

Especially in Philosophy the need for precise speech is very important as unintended meaning can be expressed by poor spelling, inconsistent wording & putting your words in the wrong order.

Because the idea that gets across in addition to the intended message is ignorance, disrespect, and plain old discourtesy.

because you appear foolish and are not taken seriously. There is a check spelling icon that you can use, and it makes you appear less dense. Then your question will probably be taken more seriously

I guess out of their pure stupidity and intolerance. Someone don't speak English that well 'cause it's not his/her native language or just makes typing mistake. It's absurd to make fun of someone for that.
