The President, the Republicans, and some Democrats say that it is necessary to get rid of our civil liberties in order to fight the terrorists. Isn't this why they attacked us in the first place? To take away our freedoms?

The right to habeus corpus was not suspended, but completely eliminated in the Military Commissions Act of 2006. Also ever heard of the Patriot Act?

The policy has worked but you wonder if its better to stick to your idea of "our ideals".
Thats the kicker though, we really dont have a specific holy "laundry list" for civil liberties. The reason is because the founding fathers were brilliant. They intentionally left this area of the constitution vague because they saw the problem with trying to specifically outline what the bill of rights is exactly protecting.
Thus we have "incorporated" the Bill of Rights but not pasted them into the law wholesale.
The problem is, we have to many simletons like you spouting off about things, you know deep inside, you really havent any backgroud to speak about.
You will find this offensive, understandably, but its really not meant in a mean spirit....to many others are guilty of this.
Tell me, these "ideals" of yours, if someone put a gun to your head and demand the exact list, could you save your own life and give it?
They really dont exist do they?

Newt Gingrich was the most recent rightie to bring it up, he said we should re -examine the First Amendment because of the Terror War. Funny how it's the anti-flag burners who support him huh?

Those who want to take away our freedoms are anti-American. It equates to treason if someone is in a position of power and accomplishes this task.
