would most nba players be able to dunk and jump that high without training? like someone like kobe or wade, if they did not train their legs or calves, would they still be able to jump as high as they do? or are they so athletically gifted that they still would be able to even without training?

Most (like 98%) of the players can dunk before coming to the nba. The training just makes them faster and stronger. They are athletically gifted and that's how they made it to the nba in the first place. Ohh yeah and the guy that made the comment about spud webb.... Spud webb could dunk in high school when he was 4'11"!!! Flippin nuts if you ask me.. So yeah players are talented before they get to the NBA... The training just gets them to their fullest potential..

I say both. People inherit genetic traits from other family members and some do not.Look at John Barry, can't jump over a ******* piece of paper, and his brother, won the dunk contest in the 90's.As far as training goes their is still a 50 percent chance that you won't still be able to dunk.

They wouldn't be able to jump as high as they can but they would still be able to dunk. Look at spud webb, under 6 foot and can dunk it so training is needed for some

There are some players (like LeBron, for example) who are naturally gifted with athleticism. But for most NBA players, athleticism isn't something that comes natural to them, it's a skill they develop. Some of the best players now were terrible at basketball the first time they picked it up at 12 or 13, but now have developed really good skills, because they practiced so much.

Some of these guys have natural athletic ability that allows them to get up like that, but NBA players have a level of skill that is highly underestimated. They pretty much have to train their whole life to get that good.

I think players today are better because they learn from the past and added modern moves to their arsenal. They are more atheletic today also. Players in the past look so good because they got to play against a bunch of pot smoking scrubs. To answer your question, Kobe would win one on one against MJ because he has all MJ moves, including moves of his own, n he is unguardable one on one. Duncan would be able to take out the big guys. Nash and Iverson are too small to play any of those legends. LeBron and Wade are not ready to play MJ maybe in the future. LB needs to improve his shot and Wade might get overpower by MJ.
