I heard mac's were a lot better for editing and sound engineering. I have a pc which am pretty familiar with but I have never looked into a mac. I found a powermac g4 with the specs above online for $500. Looking to buy one...... Thanks for the help!

That would do fine, I have a 800ghz iBook and it works fine on large Garage Band Projects, Rendering in Photo Shop, ect.

Make sure that the G4 has a factory installed DVD Burner, cause some Macs and After Market Software will not recognize 3rd party devices. You can check out all the specs at apple

As a long time Mac owner (20 years) I can tell you that the computer you are thinking of buying would to fine for home video and specially sound editing. I have a G4 1.2 mhz and it is plenty fast enough to do what you want. Plus Apple computers have the highest quality and customer support. So go for it!
