Before Hallmark, American Greetings to me Valentine's day was just an ordinary day...I feel it's being commercialize just like Christmas. Why do have to pick just one day to show how much we love the person we are with???

The reason why it is celebrated on this day is because this was the day that the Patron Saint of Lovers "St Valentine" was supposedly executed on.
It is also said whilst he was in jail awaiting execution that he was sent little notes and flowers from the children whom he had helped when they were sick. This also may have been one of the reasons why he sent a farewell note to the jailers’ daughter and why we send valentines.
There are many versions to the origin of St Valentine's Day. While I somewhat agree that this holiday is commercialized, the same can be said for most other holidays also. Writing off this day and we might as well write off Xmas, Easter and Halloween. If it means that we all enjoy ourselves for whatever "commercialized" reasons behind it then is it really that sinister?
Happy Valentine's to all !

Back in the old days there was this man named Saint Valintine who was Cathloic Priest and was martyrerd in the late 3rd century for helping people get married when the Romen Lord was going kill them for it.
To be honest on one really knows. It is a Myth.
Back in the 1800's a man come up with the story.

This day - Valentine's - is yet another in which we are all supposed to do our part to keep our economy afloat - $pend - the more you $pend, the greater your love of our country and economy. Fact is, if you really honor the tradition, you wouldn't $pend - you would do and say. Heck, the cost of one simple Hallmark card is about the same as a meal in a restaurant ... well, close.

i do no longer observe the day and not in trouble-free terms via fact i'm single. i think of it stupid and over-the-actual (very own opinion) no longer to show any pagan connections (which might technically prepare to Christmas and probable even Easter, the latter of which will desire to be renamed- we would desire to constantly faster bear in mind the Jewish Passover than prepare the call of a pagan goddess.)

St. Valentine was a person who wed people on this day and he secretly did that because you back then in Italy couldn`t get married so he died because they found out what he was doing and sooo we celebrate loving for St.Valentine
