Epidural! It's like a warm summer day in the fields with the birds chirping in the background...but you're in a hospital room having contractions. LOL.

I was at the same place you are. I was so scared about this. I realized that closer to the due date, I was really ready to be done being pregnant and I actually started to look forward to going into labor, so I wouldnt have to be pregnant anymore. I think that there is something in a woman's body that makes you ready to give birth, even if you are scared. I am sure that things will not take too long, once the labor starts, and you after giving birth, you will wonder why you were so scared. It really is not bad. I think women tell horror stories just to scare other women, and make it seem like they are so tough, that they can handle labor. I will tell you that it is not something that I would want to do everyday, but it is not so bad that my husband and I would like to try again soon for another little bundle of joy. SO, relax, and enjoy the rest of your preganancy and you will soon see that once the labor starts, it will all be ok.

any anxiety pills will reflect on your baby.
I had a fear of birth since childhood and I was always sure I'll die giving birth. So far i survived 36 hours of painful labor and will go through this again and again to hove more of those bundles of joy I ended up with :))
Get an epidural as soon as you can (if you can) - it will not kill your fear but will kill the pain.
Just think that after you're done - you'll be able to feel love you never felt in your entire llife. Someone told me this before I gave birth and I could not understand that until now...

I was scared the first time I gave birth. It happened so fast that I couldn't take anything. One thought that helped me through was that countless women have gone through childbirth since the begining of time and survived. If they could do it in the roughest of conditions, I can do it too. Plus the nurses were so wonderful and helpful during the birth, they really helped me feel more confident that it was all going to be ok. I don't know what they can give you as far as medication goes though. Of course, ask your doctor or midwife. Good luck I'm sure you will be fine.

I have had three children and witnessed several others .. THE Very Best thing you can do is to focus your attention on something else.
THe Breathing exercises they give you are by far the BEST! U might feel silly for doing them but they actually work. Often times when women are in labor they hold their breath and this is not good.. So just do the Heee Hee HEee Hoo Hoo Hoo Hee hee Hee .. and try to focus on something in the room far off...

Don't worry...especially if you're open to drugs. If you can get an epidural, do it! It changes everything! Even before your body is ready for the epidural, you can take Nubain or other oral drugs from the hospital. Talk to your Dr. to see what the options are. If you take a Childbirth Prep class, they'll go over all the drug options too. But don't worry - the labor goes so quickly, especially in comparison to the whole lifetime you'll get with your wonderful baby!

An epidural!!! Really, child birth shouldn't be a scary thing. Our bodies, believe it or not were created to give life and give birth. My best suggestion to you would be to not fret or worry about the birthing process... I think that will be your Savior. Just look at it as a period of some pain with an outcome that is miraculous and worth every second of pain. With drugs its typically bearable. Best of luck to you -- I'm expecting another one in August!

When you actually go into labor, you won't be so scared. You will know exactly what to do and when to do it. The pain will be too much for you to be scared or even embarrassed. You could be totally naked with your butt up in the air with 10 strangers in the room and you wouldn't care one bit!!

The thing that helped me the most was to be as informed as I possibly could. I read everything I could get my hands on. Some good choices are "What to Expect When You're Expecting," and "The Everything Pregnancy Book." Ask your doctor any and all questions. Make sure you know all the facts and all your options. It does wonders for anxiety.

Talk with your doctor about this. There are things you can take, but they don't help much in the doses allowed during child-birth.
The best thing you can do is preparation. The more you know, the more confident you will be. Learn all you can and be confident in yourself and the doctors and such. That is the best thing you can do. Again, talk with a doctor. They might be able to offer something I can't.
Good luck!
