I just bought an Acer 3692 for £400 from Comet. None left but you could look at www.ebuyer.co.uk. Friend at work just bought an hp from them and they delivered next day.

My Acer has 15.4" screen, 1 gb ram, 60 gig hard drive, dual layer dvd re-writer, wireless, 4 usb ports, S video, 1.73ghz processor, Intel 950GMA 224mb graphics. Fantastic machine for £400 and it doesn't have all the crap software that you don't need. It also has free upgrade to VISTA. Please note that if you are buying any machine with intel graphics it has to be the 950GMA as otherwise it won't run properly. Don't believe me then ring Intel yourself and ask them. I did.

Don't buy a dell (rubbish support in uk), or packard bell (rubbish in general), advent (they just packard bell produced for dixons, currys and pc world or e machines/systems. They just cheap. If you want my spec but with dual core look at www.comet.co.uk. They have an Acer on there for £499. Collect in store or get their faster delivery service. If it doesn't arrive on time they refund you the delivery.

i would recommend getting an acer laptop. go to www.shopacer.co.uk
they have all the acer range and you can choose which laptop that is suited to your needs. you may want a laptop for gaming rather than normal browsing, work etc. and they have all kinds suited to different requirements. plus acer are much cheaper than sony or hp. it's upto you if you want style over substance then a sony vaio is definitely for you. im not here to promote acer, just giving my opinion.
