You did the right thing. Racism will not "just go away". It has to be faced and fought. Kudos to you for standing up and saying NO.

I probably would not have thought to go to the principal, but I think you did the right thing in doing so anyway.
I've personally been in your situation so many times, I barely blink when people say nasty things. In my situation though, it seems there are more black males that give us hell more than anyone else. Other people just make comments or stare, but again, that doesn't affect me in the least.
So I think you did right. Next time, she'll think twice before she says something like that to someone else.

Absolutely! I dated a black man for a while and he was nothing like "those thugs and gangsters" racist people think of, but my grandparents were against interracial relationships and would not allow him to come along when I visited them. If they would have just met him they would know he was the nicest guy ever. My family told me I had to realize that they grew up in a different era when many white people were racist, but in your case, there is no reason for a young person in our generation to think like that. She might not deserve punishment because it was probably how she was raised, but it will probably cause her to think twice before she says something like that again.

Leaving it alone wouldve been a good choice. The only upper hand you need is to know your in the right and your buddy is being taught ignorrance. Do you really believe God is so judgemental that two people with seperate skin colors would send you to an eternal flame? She probably didnt deserve suspension since chances are she'll grow up and think for herself and see the human race for what it is. I am white and until now have only dated white people. One of which abused me. I am married now to a man who is Indian and Spanish. He's a real keeper. Do what is good for you. Be with who alllows you to be you and loves that. Look for less judgemental friends.

Youre going to hear the interracial thing for the rest of your life if you continue dating white guys. Believe me I know, Im engaged to one! Getting one person off your back isnt going to do much when you have the rest of the world dogging you about it. I was suprised when the pastor at my church mentioned that! Love the man you love because of the lovely man he is or if you;re like me because of all that and the gorgeous blue eyes he has, and the long curls that are all around his head!

You did the right thing, and there needs to be more of that happening, because there are a lot of ignorant parents out there, it will be by interracial marriages that will change our racists attitudes towards one another, and bring peace to our world one day.

You probably should have just left her alone in her own ignorance. A lot of racist people are against inter racial relationships. I happen to think it could lead to more racial tolerance and understanding, and maybe even one day erase racial lines and tensions. You're not going to Hell because of that. But you do need more open minded friends.

i had a relationship starting in high school with black man. i was eventually kicked out because of the relationship issue when i was 18. we lived together for over 10 yrs.
things that i have heard and seen throughout those years are still around but not as many people who are your peers will be as bad as then(70's).
don't feel bad for sticking up for you. your choice was OK. stick up for yourself always, but do it with maturity and be respectful to refrain from anger. many words spoken in anger are taken the wrong way.

Sounds like a good response to me.
My wife and I were told we were going to hell a number of times. I suspect that when we're before the pearly gates, we'll have less trouble explaining our loving marriage (31 years together and going strong) compared to those having to explain insults and harrassment.

I would have kicked the ***** @ss! I've dated Irish, Italian, Jewish and German and I wish a white ***** would say something to me! That would just be an excuse for her to get her beat down or something worse! Do not be up in peoples business like that! Sometimes it's turns out to be not so healthy for a person! I mean 6:00 news unhealthy!

I noticed you used the word "had", you date who you want to date and don't let anyone else make that decision for you. She was able to say those things to you because no one has been strong enough to put her in her place, you did the right thing. Never feel good about getting someone in trouble. In this case she did it to herself.
