If your snoring is really loud and disruptive, chances are good that you have a condition called sleep apnea, which MUST be taken seriously. Untreated sleep apnea not only stresses both the snorer and everyone else in the house who can't get a good night's sleep, it can also lead to heart malfunction and death! And not all sleep apnea sufferers are overweight; that is a myth.

Apnea is easily treated with the use of a night-breathing aid called a CPAP. You must see a sleep doctor before you can get one, as they have to be individually adjusted, but most insurance covers the cost. CPAP eliminates snoring 100% and keeps your heart from being damaged. Surgery is now rarely used to treat apnea, as the success rate is not that good. The nasal strips are a waste of time for serious snorers.

Please ask your doctor to refer you to a sleep doctor or sleep clinic ASAP. These facilities often have a long waiting list, and procrastinating can really damage your health. Do it today.

I am sorry I have to ask this, but are you overweight? And I would be curious as to how much, 5pds 10, 15pds?

The reason I ask, is that I can tell when my husband has gained or lost weight depending on his snoring. He is about 6ft tall and at 120 he hardly snores. If he gets up to 125,130, or higher, I stay up all night long cause he can not stop snoring. If you are not overweight and you just snore, I would recommend those breathing strips you put over your nose, or maybe you should see a doc cause you could have sleep apnea(probably spelled wrong) Hope this helps...

Please accept all points Apple said. Pulmonary Dr's are the ones to see for this problem. Most likely they'll order a sleep study for you. Electrodes are taped to your chest neck and several places on the skull. your heart rate is monitored as well as brain function while you sleep The test can sense exactly the stages of sleep your in. If your discovered to have true sleep apnea or snore for no apparent reason. The test will indicate the point which positive pressure is needed to prevent you from snoring. Nowadays the Respironics Company makes smart CPAPS. They constantly adjust to give only the pressure you need to prevent snoring. Good Luck

My husband is horrible too. He had the sinus surgery but that didn't really help at all on the snoring. It helped on all of his headaches, but they said it would help the snoring too. The breath right strips didn't really do anything either. I want to try that new throat spray they just came out with. Maybe try that. Good luck.

Stop drinking alcohol.

Drink a lot of icewater before retireing

If you don't drink... get checked for sleep apnea before you have a heart attack.
