I have inspected them closely and they do not appear to have much of a structure. They do not move of their own accord and I cannot locate a pulse so I assume that they are not living. They taste quite bitter and smell "earthy".

Does anyone have any idea what they might be? Could they be valuable?

You had better take them in to be x-rayed and have a mammogram done. My friend found lumps and it turned out to be cancer. Don't delay, go to the Doctor immediately.
Sometimes it helps to bring the original box they were found in also. Don't mind the dirty looks, it's all good.
