I think what you got was fine, he's a man they don't care about gifts on Vday that much from my experience.

I could almost get really mad at you. It's people like you that keep Hallmark and the rest of those jerks in business.
Let's look at what you are giving. A personal letter that tells him how you feel about him, what you hope for in your relationship and more personal things. Can you buy anything that will convey your feelings as well? At sixteen and seventeen, how about a subscription to a hot-rod mag? Maybe a new bicycle? A ghetto-blaster?
All these are great gifts, al right, for the average hormone-ravaged young man, but I forgot something. You're in love. Then, how about tuition to a trade school? His own personal shovel? Best yet, an appointment with the nearest U.S. Navy Recruiter?
The possibilities are endless. I hope the same can be said about your "love".

Maybe if you two likes physical activities like sports, how about taking him out for a day of ice skating? toboganning? Then you could stop by Starbucks for some hot cocoa's.

If he's a bit of a bookworm, get him an excellent novel (a guy novel like "Eye of the Needle" by Richard Marquand and the like)

Does he enjoy cooking? Maybe buy him a recipe book, or better yet, gather all your mom's and aunt's and grandma's recipe and compile them into a personal creative recipe book.

Likes watching movies? Buy a favourite action, thriller/ horror, comedy movie, race car movie ("Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift"), or dance movie (i.e. "Step it Up" or "You Got Served") If he likes old films, try looking for 'em on Target or Wal-Mart. Better yet, buy those that comes in a 3-pack collections.

Prefer to listen to music? Get him a cd collection of his favourite band or artist or an mp3 / ipod player.

Here's what NOT to get your guy for v-day: bouquet of flowers, soft plush toy bunnies, and basically anything considered cute and too girlie...

Hope you find your valentine's present soon and good luck!

A watch is a good idea. You could also try a pocket knife, key chain, or even cheap cologne. Guys are hard to tell when they are that age, when it comes to the mushy stuff. They like to pretend to be rough and tuff. Try and make him feel that way instead of soft. i would say your love lines and write them all. Just do the letter you wrote. Happy V day and may it be a memerable one.

yes i think that you should get him something. do not go over the top on this one! why dont you go to a place like James Avery and pick a guy's ring and have it engraved on the inside or outside with either your names and the year and the whole date thing..or you could pick one of your favorite Bible verses like how for me it is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 and inscribe part of the verse on the ring. do not give him a watch since he already has that, cologne he has and it comes and goes but rather something that when he sees he will think of you.

I think thats cute! besides it the heart behind it that matters and you shouldnt be in a competition of gift giving with eachother. Its a cute gift and I would stick with it. I think you rather givehim somthing sentimental than forced too.

I think it good enough for your age and the clock thing is NOT weird it's sweet, genuine, and sincere. Real men like things from the heart! (and never listen to your friends you'll end up alone every time).
