When too many people are in charge, everybody wants to do something in a different way and nobody ends up doing a good job.

This means that sometimes it is more effective to do a project with only a few people , rather than a larger number. Too many people working together sometimes ends in chaos. It is like having ten cooks in the kitchen all trying to add someting to the soup at once. The broth will not end up tasting good. One cook working alone would be better.

If you have too many cooks and each cooks fixes broth a different way, there is going to be problems. You can fix one pot of broth one way only.
How can it be used. Maybe in designing a house. You can use only one design. You need a chief designer. Don't use the term really so can not think of an example.

The saying is a "PROVERB" not preverb and it literally means that if you have several cooks in a kitchen they all want to add their own spices to a soup until eventually it would be unpalettable and you would have to throw it out. However, if you cooked the soup yourself it would be just right. With only the spices it needs, not too much. In other words: Too many people trying to implement their ideas in a job will only confuse things and overcomplicate the matter.

Too many people helping or trying to help can ruin a project.
It came from when women would get together & cook sometimes several would add salt to the soup in my cause potatoes. I do not let anyone help me cook.
In business too many people adding their input will confuse everyone.

You can also say "Too many chefs in the kitchen." It basically means there are too many people trying to be in control of a situation and it ruins the task.
