Beckham cannot play for the US as 1) he's not an American citizen, and 2) he has already capped for England's senior team.

Likewise, Dempsey can't play for England because 1) he's not an English citizen, and 2) he has already capped for the US senior team.

Beckham can PLAY in the US and Dempsey can PLAY in England, but neither will be able to play for that country.

Acutally, Beckham will never play for the US. Beckham is going to play in the US league for the LA Galaxy (like the NBA and Europeans.) He will never be able to play for the US because he has already capped (played in an international match ) for England and FIFA states that once you play for a countries national team in a FIFA sanctioned match, you can't play for any other country. Beckham will continue to play for England (if coach McLaren calls him up) and will play his club ball with LA Galaxy of MLS.

He's going to play IN the US, not FOR the US. He'll get a work permit not the American citizenship.
Kaka just received the Italian citizenship, he will be allowed to play for the Italian team if he is chosen, that will be an interesting event to follow.

Umm, it sounds like you're expecting him to be playing for the national team. I don't think that's going to be possible unless/until he applies for U.S. citizenship.

If you're talking about club football, he'll be able to play for the LA Galaxy in June, after the Spanish season, when his obligations to his current team, Real Madrid, have ended.

He can't play for the US since he has already played for England's senior team in a FIFA sanctioned match. He will only play for a team in US(La Galaxy).. It's kinda like in basketball, Dirk Nowitzski doesnt play for USA in the olympics.
