yes.in some schools in new york city they do that

Not a new trend, perhaps a repeating trend. "Girls' schools" and "Boys' schools" have been around as long as schools have existed. Far, far back, schools were only for boys and then they started educating girls in separate schools because the sexes were divided in other ways in those cultures.

there are a few boys schoold and girls schools but the majority in the Uk are mixed
