Lake Saiful Muluk (Urdu: سیف الملوک )is a lake located at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley (34°52'37.34" N, 73°41'37.71" E) near Naran. It is in the north east of Mansehra district of North West Frontier Province, Pakistan. At an altitude of 3,224 m (10,578 feet) above sea level it is amongst one of the highest lakes in Pakistan.
The lake is accessible by a 14km jeep road from Naran (which is accessible by a metalled road from Mansehra via Balakot and Kaghan) during the summer months. On foot, the trek from Naran to the lake takes about 4-6 hours. The water is spectacularly clear with a slight green tone. The clarity of the water comes from the multiple glaciers all around the high basin feeding the lake which provides a spectacular scenery. Malka Parbat that is shining in the lake is the biggest source.
A fairy tale called Saiful Muluk, written by the famous Panjabi sufi poet Mian Muhammad Bakhsh,is associated with the lake .
Lake Saif-ul-Muluk
Only 10 kms from Naran, this lake is 3200 metres (11,000 ft) high, providing an awe-inspiring view of Malika Parbat (Queen of the Mountains) 5,260 metres high (17,500ft). You can go boating on the lake and hear the local legend about Prince Saif-ul-Muluk who fell in love with fairy. The lake and its surroundings have a touch of unreal about them and are breathtakingly lovely. There is a charming legend about a prince called Saiful Muluk who fell in love with a fairy of the lake. The lake is named after the prince. The best way to reach the lake is to walk but you may also take a pony or a jeep.
There is a lake high up in the mountains of Pashtunkhwa which is named after a legendary prince by the name of Saiful Malook. Located at an altitude of over 3000 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by snow-capped mountains on all sides. The only way to reach the lake is by following the Naran Kata Stream which originates from the lake and falls into the Kunar River. Other routes are simply too dangerous to follow.
Saiful Malook was a fond hunter and his expeditions usually would bring him towards a lake in the wilderness that was surrounded by tall snow-capped peaks. One day, the young prince saw a fascinating spectacle. A beautiful fairy was walking on the surface of the lake. Curiosity brought him closer to her and they fell in love; thus they started meeting every other day. The longing for each other kept increasing with the passage of time and it was not long that stories about their meeting spread like wild fire.
One day, Saiful Malook went up to the lake only to find that nobody was there. After waiting all day, he would come back in the evening. This went on for some days until he started to worry for the safety of the fairy. But he had no other way of finding about her whereabouts besides coming to the lake. One day he was waiting by the lake when he spotted a group of fairies having a bath in the waters at the other side of the lake. He went to the other side and begged them to let him know about Badri Jamala's whereabouts but the fairies laugh at his abysmal state. But a kind hearted fairy came forward and told the prince that Badri Jamala's movements had been confined to the close vicinity of the Koh-e-Kaaf; a mystical range of mountains located in the Caucasus. The prince left for the Koh-e-Kaf in search of his love, braving all odds, and finally succeeded in his mission - getting married to the fairy Badri Jamala.
This lake is so deep that so far its depth could not be measured.
The depth of this heighest lake is still unknown.

Lake Saif-ul-Malook
The Land of the fairies,no doubt it earned its name just for nothing,as they say seeing is believing. The breath taking view of the lake and the towering "malka parbat"meaning the Queen Mountain standing tall and invincable presents a classical picture of His art.
"Thou art everywhere,I see thee in here".Love on first sight made me say this and I was awe-struck at its majesty and grandeaur.
The legend of the lake is very intresting and romantic.A Prince,Saif ul Malook fell in love with a fairy princess,Badr u Jamal, whom he saw in his dreams. The prince was restless untill a Darvaish (holy man) told him where to find her(i.e.by the lake) and that he had to go through a tough exam to be able to marry the fairy because the prince was a human and she was a fairy. Thus the prince marched on his quest for the impossible in the name of love.He waited by the lake where there was no habitation,(there still isn,t),no food, nothing. His long wait of 12 years, finally reaped harvest and one good morning he saw the fairy come to bathe with her maids and friends in the lake. The prince hid her wings as advised by the holy man.The fairy was very tense at not finding her wings.Eventually the prince appeared and told her about his tale of love and long wait, which moved the fairy and they agreed to marry. But there is always a villan. So a Deuo Safaid (the white gaint) who was himself in love with the fairy got jealous and furious. In rage the gaint cried and thus tear lake (ansoo jheel, approx. 2 miles away ) was formed. The giant stepped angrily, the dam broke and the outlet to the lake SaifulMalook was formed. The prince and the fairy princess fled away in a cave (which still exists and its length is unknown to this day).
The legend says that both the prince and the fairy live in the centre of the lake saifulmalook ,and on every full moon night they emerge mounted on a white flying horse, the pagasus, from the centre of the lake.
The depth of the lake has not been measured to this day,the last effort they say was made in late 90s but the measuring chain weighing 5 tons went down and vanished and the mystery of the lake dares us!catch me if u can.
