I'm moving to another state in August. When should I start looking for another job? I've applied to several companies and i've only had a few responses and each one is saying wait until I get to the area to meet with them. What should I do in the mean time?

Right now. You're doing everything on time. In the mean-time, if you are able to get to the other state to interview, that would be great. You would have to do something like around a couple of weeks before you leave. That would be awesome, but keep e-mailing and mailing resumes. Also in the meantime, I think that you should look into different areas of the town you will be moving to. Get some information on bus routes, in case you don't have a car or in case something happens to your car you have some information on that. Also, I don't know if you are a student, but it would be good to look into the benefits of attending certain schools in the area, and to start applying (if you are a student, that is). Otherwise, I'd say, get your financial things in order. Make sure you do have enough money to cover for rent or house notes or whatever until you do start working if you haven't found a job by the time you're ready to move. Other things that apply, if you have children, start looking at their schooling, different neighborhoods, after-school programs, etc. It's good to know where clinics are in case of emergencies. Altogether you should really be looking into those jobs mostly and also putting away your money for the move. And I don't know if you're driving or flying or what, but if you choose to do some shipping of your items, make sure that you can calculate about how much it would cost as opposed to leaving valued things behind because you can't carry them all with you. I had to really think about that when I moved. I wish I could think of more. I hope this has helped. Good luck.

You need to develop a large list of places to send your resume to. When you are 30 days from moving, mail to your list your resume. Those firms that have an opening coming up will contact you, those with a possible job will schedule interviews. Those with no opening or prospect of an opening will politely say so or not respond.

By mailing 30 days before you are due to arrive, you allow the mail time to get there and back. If there is a rush job, you will be alerted. If you have time, the prospective employers know that there is a possible candidate coming.

I would keep working up until about two weeks before the move... during that time I would keep trying to apply either on-line or through their recommended ways. If you are close to a town that is not far for you now to get to and also from your new place try that as well... (If possible mind you)

Good Luck

Keep looking.
If you are out of work now, then hopefully you have some savings.
You could also get a job where you live now and quit in August.

It's not very nice but you have to be able to pay the rent and feed the tummy. :)

Good Luck.
