Should I get a female and a male guinea pig?

Should I get a male and female? Or should I get two females? Which get along better? I don't want them for breeding.

Same sex pairs will get along just fine, if you get a male and female you'll be in the guinea pig business whether you wanted them for breeding or not. Some vets will spay/neuter a pig, not sure of the cost or if one in your area will do that. Easier to just get two girls or two boys.

Two females would probably be the easiest match, but guinea pigs are loving and social animals, so it's fun to watch a male dote on a female. I got my male neutered two years ago (which is much safer than getting a female spayed) and he's still bucking away. Call around to some small animal vets and see who has experience in this department. Make sure that you find someone who has successfully neutered a guinea pig. The cost is cheap - less than neutering a dog or cat. My male was so in love with his girl - he would follow her around purring like a mad man. It was hilarious.

Males are better off in groups, and females are better in pairs, although a female and a male are best off, but watch out: They can have up to 8 babies every month!

Best getting two little girls if brought up together they should not fight I had 3 girls and they got on well. Boy and girl will almost definitely have babies.They are so much fun.
