go to an auto parts site - type in wheel bearings - look at the front ones ( inner and outer ) - problem here is that buying is not the same as installing so pick a garage and get it done they know what to do ( did the estimates come from a visit or a phone call ? )

AND a grinding - rubbing sound that changes with load and wheel angle is usually BEARINGS unlike the answer above ( chance that it could be front disc brakes - but you can peek through the wheels and see if you have major rotor scoring - grooves - use your fingers to check the back - you can also see the pads ( if you see pad lining and no major scoring it's the bearings )

First of all, if it is a FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, you will be paying through the nose for the repairs. It may be a bearing and it may also be a universal joint.
On 4X4 trucks, the front drive axles go through extreme wear and tear. USUALLY a universal joint starts the problems in the front axles.
if you are doing one side... you really need to do BOTH sides.
If it is a TWO WHEEL DRIVE, front bearings range from $15.00 to $40.00 "BUT" have to have them installed! Labor is the expensive part of any repair.
You need to be sure the mechanics you are going to have credentials! ASE certification proves they have studied and have good knowledge of the certified category.

There are a lot of bearings on this vehicle. If you have wiped out the pinion bearings, yes, it could run you $1500, simply because there will be gear damage as well. Your best bet as someone mentioned is to have it diagnosed. Then you can start shopping for the best prices.

First have a good diagnosis of the problem. It does not sound like a wheel bearing. More like a motor mount. Secondly go to an auto parts store where they have catalogs for your year make and model car. They will sell you the correct part.
That price for a wheel bearing replacement is absurd. More like 150.00
