Because they have stupid management. Matt Millen is a joke of a GM plain and simple. Until the owners wise up the Lions will be nothing more than bottom feeders in the NFL.

There never is any guarentee in the NFL draft. For every Tom Brady, there is a Ryan Leaf. Look at last year, alot of people were saying that Jay Cutler was the best QB in the draft, and this year, Jamarcus Russel wasn't even on the radar until LSU blew out ND! Its a crap shoot half the time! I think they need to trade the pick so that they can try to get 2 first round picks, and or some O-lineman from another team. I think drafting Joe Thomas at No. 2 would be a bad move. The spot is too valuable to other teams who need to fill holes at skill positions, and one O-lineman is not going to solve our problems, no matter who the QB is. 3 O-lineman might help!

NO way!! Stafford worked MIRACLES very last 3 hundred and sixty 5 days with Detroit and is now a correct 10 probably 5 QB. and he's youthful including his recreation in trouble-free terms going up. the guy already knows the offense bringing in Manning would shrink to rubble what they were given moving into Detroit. And the Lions offensive line could have some large collapses at situations and having Manning including his neck getting banged round can harm him and probably end his occupation and would harm the Lions in the destiny.

Drafting a good quarteback is very hard to do. It is easy to see that Aikman, Marino, Elway, etc turned out great, but there are 10 times as many who were taken in the first round that never panned out.

Atlanta traded Brett Favre thinking he was a bust. It is hard to imagine now, but that is the difficulty in making the right picks.

The Lions are handicapped by having a really poor GM and management that does not know how to hire good people and give them the authority to get the job done....sort of like what they are doing with Ford Motor Company.

They have the worst gm in football. I mean how many chances with high 1st round picks do you have to screw up, before the city wakes up and realizes that even people in Michigan don't cheer for the Lions anymore. It's been a sad day for the Detroit Lions for a long time now.

They have a pretty good one now in Jon Kitna. His stats were actually very good in 2006, but the team's future isn't with Kitna.
Matt Millen has done nothing for this team, and I think that the Lions had their guy in Harrington but just didn't stick with him long enough. They also had their coach in Steve Mariucci, but from what I hear Millen upset the apple cart there as well.
Henry Clay Ford, the team owner, has to do an organizational evaluation-- and fast if he wants to sell tix.

Because Matt Millen doesn't know what the hell he is doing. Through all of these first round busts they've drafted, Detroit has had different coaches, staff and players. The only constant is the worst gm in football.

The lion's did the worst thing in the world for them last year. They let Harrington go. He was the heart and the soul of that sh*tty little team and now they have none and it'll just be another hurdle for all the elite 1st rounders to have to suffer a couple years through!

It's easier said than done to draft a good QB. I'm sure they thought Joey Harrington was going to be that guy, didn't pan out very well!

The answer is cause of the line and running backs. They had a good one in Joey but got rid of him and did pretty good in Miami. If you have a poor line and poor running backs then how can a QB do his job if hes always running for his life.
