Wow. There are some really bad answers on here. Definitely go for something NOT popular. Directors hate to hear something over and over again. Definitely go for something from musical theatre. The National Anthem? No. I think the Brigadoon song would be great. If you can get a hold of Children of Eden there are several killer tenor songs in there. The Secret Garden musical also has few. I know you can get the score to that; I got it at a music store. HMS Pinafore is a wonderful show to be in, by the way. Break a leg!

I truthfully have auditioned scholars for over 25 college musicals. that's my opinion which you may in no way sing something that may no longer a minimum of two decades previous. i'm no longer that lady" has in trouble-free terms been accomplished via the character in depraved, or an extremely present day recording, meaning you're competing against a expert. you in addition to mght run the possibility of being between the to sing the comparable track. seek for a matching character to the single your daughter would p.c. to be in this prepare. look in 20 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous musicals. sturdy success

The US National anthem is actually a good one.
It's a hard song to sing well, and offers some flexibility in how you sing the easier parts. This allows you to show off the ability to do a difficult piece well, but also allows you a chance to improvise a little.

Wow, a high C? That's pretty good, I'm a tenor and I thought I was good hitting a high A note.
Why not:
"I'm Singing in the Rain"

How about "Take A Pair Of Sparkling Eyes" from The Gondoliers? It isn't normally recommended to sing from the same show for which you are auditioning.

For a G&S upbeat song you might like "With Cat-like Tread" from the Pirates of Penzance. It's meant for chorus, but it should work anyway. (And "Pirates" is one of their better known operettas, so you should be able to find it.)

Something well-known would be ideal. Anything from a popular musical is great.
