I have a hauppauge PVR350 installed in my home system and it works great.

But you will probably want to use a third party PVR package. I use sageTV and found it works much better than any of the free stuff you get with the device. http://www.sageTV.com
It costs $79.00, but you can try it before you buy.

You would need a USB tuner card which is connected to a television source (cable, sattellite) and then make sure you have the drivers installed and the PVR software and thats about it.
