What did you do? Did you find it was worth the effort to try to renew the friendship or did you just let them fade out of your life? A high school friend of mine who I go to college with has slighted me and my roommate (new best friend) and tries to get under everyones' skin. She's naturally argumentative and enjoys conflict, so I don't know what she considers normal friendship anymore. Should I ask her to meet for coffee and discuss things to make sure our friendship isn't suffering because of something that is going wrong in her life? Thanks in advance.

Yes ask her if she is having some type of personal problems, but if she isn't and continues to be angry and argumentative to you and your new best friend tell her to hit the road.

from what im hearing here, she dosnt respect you or your new best friend, and she causes problems (and enjoys them). why would you want that in your life?! dont waste the coffee over her, it isnt worth it. its good that you made a good friend at school, so even if you wouldnt cut off the 'friendship' with the person in question for yourself, why would you want to be around somone who causes problems with your best friend? i suggest you move on and keep this person in your past. i have a feeling that the reason you consitered her a friend was because she was an aqqantance that was always around: ive been there, and had to realize the hard way that i thought i had somthing i didnt have. its painful to lose somone whos been there for a long time (im going through the same thing) but if shes causing problems, its not healthy for you to have her in your life. theres enough good people in the world for you to spend time with, why waste time with somone who dosnt respect you and your friends and causes problems? good luck with these difficult decitions you will have to make..

That kind of thing happens threw out your entire life. I am old... and when I was a newly married wife, I made a new next door neighbor friend, my first real close girl friend, she decided to drop me for a richer friend, and It broke my heart. I even cried, it has been over 20 years now and the hurt is way far behind me, but I miss her still. I have never trusted another woman since and have made my husband my best friend, he even has a date with our older son to go see a monster truck ralley and I am really glad they are going. I wish I could go too, but he only has one extra ticket, but ....that is another story...
