If an employer is withholding wages from an employee who has quit (in North Carolina) where can someone go for help in getting the money due them (besides a lawyer who may charge more than the wages in dispute). What government agency is in charge of such things in this state? Thanks!

NCDL or North Carolina Dept. of Labor in Raleigh. You can also consult with the Industrial Commission. Good luck!

Call the NC Lawyer Referral Services at 1-800-662-7660, and they'll be able to help you find a local lawyer that does employment law. It's probably the industrial comission that deals with that.
