Television censors have some really bizarre guidelines!!! You would need to have a conference with the network executives. Some channels will permit common swear words while the word fart is not allowed? It would make a very strange study.
If you are looking for logic, don't bother it is illogical. You'd have better luck nailing jello onto the wall.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. It is the same and not at all. A nipple is a nipple. and as one poster said it seems like a ridiculous hypocrisy to show every part of the boob but not the nipple

Or show you the whole naked breast, nipple included, if it is painted so the nipple is not noticeable.

I would suspect the stigma had its origin in Judea_Christian ethic(which was very strong when the nation was young). That to see the natural breast of a woman, even under clothes gave way to thoughts of seeing them, then other parts of her naked body, ending in thoughts of lust/sex. And as much as America tries to act free and liberated about sex, to the point of using it to sell you everything from gum, to burgers, it is like a man before the mirror who once he steps away, forgets what he looks like. I believe that is the real reason behind the resistance to women breast feeding in public. God forbid the little one break the lip lock in a crowded commute train or at the air port waiting area and the nipple be exposed. Children might be looking at that very moment and have their eye's scorched(and if you taste the sarcasm, you don't need salt for it) If women REALLY wanted to be equal to men, they would insist that they can go shirtless the ones that desired to do so.

ya i always did find that funny. Some man nipples look like women nipples. If you were just to show a close up of the nipple and not the rest of the body i doubt anyone will find that erotic. I for one think that cleavage is more erotic then nipples, yet they still show that.

I think blurring out the nipples of women is a happy medium between the prudishness of conservative Christian fundamentalists and the more liberated regular people. Boobage with blurred nipples is still good, though.

Well, considering that women's breasts have been sexualized and objectified for eons, I would have to say that's why. Men's chests have never been subject to the kind of sexual attention that women's have. You don't here about men running to the plastic surgeon to have their pecs done, but women are going to surgeons in record numbers. Sensors look at the sexual context of nudity, and really there is none when it comes to men's chests.

Great question! Need to see the whole thing on women. It's obvious why it doesn't matter about men in the same way. It's one of the things that 'makes the world go 'round'!

Cause women's nipples are considered erotic and sexual, unless you're looking at a copy of National Geographic! Seriously, you'd have to ask a behavioral psych to explain the answer. Too primal, yet complicated, I'm afraid.

I have no idea, seriously.

I think it's stupid to blur out the nipple if you show the whole rest of the breast.

I don't get it at all.

Well for most people, a man's nipples are not a turn-on like a woman's nipples. Just like they won't show a man's penis in the same movie that they will show a woman's breast and vagina. -L
