You know, not all American men are ignorant of Indian culture. I know that Indians have approximately 21 official languages. Hindi is a general language used throughout India. It continues with Gujjerati phrases that I know, etc.
As an American, I'm inclined to tell you that sometimes we meet people from a different culture that serves to us as a face of that culture. If you are Indian, you smell, and have a trucker's mouth, you will find that some people might take that as an indication that Indian people smell and have little to no sense of grace. That is stereotypying.
The one thing that I adhere to is that in life, you never assume anything. Never assume that a person is stupid because he's American. Do not assume that someone is dumb because that person cannot speak. Look at Stephen Hawkin; he has ALS yet he is able to do complex mathematical formulas that can best the common person.
My suggestion: Keep an open mind. Be respectful towards others. Most of all, keep a tight lip; if you have nothing nice to say, it is best to let others assume the better of you instead of showing them your limitations in tact and reason.
Best wishes...

I'm sure American Women are too. I hope you start looking for an opportunity to help all people understand and learn from You about Indian culture. I think it would be fascinating to have a real person's experience rather than just reading about it. But first make it clear whether you are speaking about Native Indians or those from the country of India!! It's not enough information!! @8-)

American men? Do you imagine American women are less ignorant about Indian culture than men are?
Americans in general have had very little contact or serious education about India or about most 3rd world countries. Please remember that until quite recently India was a 3rd world country with a weak economy, a disastrous population problem, weak infrastructure and a dubious political system. Some of your problems are being solved now, and there is much hope for the future, but the fact remains that very little of what happens there has until now had any real impact on the lives of most other people living elsewhere in the world.

In India, after watching many U.S. made movies and TV shows, everyone there thinks all American telephone numbers start with 555! Don't feel bad, Europeans and South Americans think that, too.
Why are Indian women so ignorant of the Tutsi tribal culture?

I've personally have had no exposure to it but I think I would find it interesting. One thing I've noticed about Indian people is that 99% of them can come to this country with no more than $30.00 to their name and can be an engineer or a real estate mogul within 5 years and we have people here that are born with 10 times the opportunity and do nothing with it and expect the govt. to spoon feed them for life so that tells me that the Indian Educational System needs to be the template for the rest of us. You've just made me interested in Indian culture!

Yeah they got here first...and this America...we are the ignorant ones who took over their land!!!! I am taking it that you are an American Indian or are you from India? sorry if I was not understanding that in your question.

For starters which Indian culture do you refer to (I assume its Indian as in India)
And I don't think it is merely their ignorance of Indian culture, you have heard of the stereotypical ignorant American right?

Are you sure that's ALL american men? Not really a fair accusation. Most American's daily dealing with India is limited to tech support.
How knowledgeable are you of Polish culture? Or Carribean? Don't pass judgement so quickly.
I would not move to another country and presume that anyone there knew anything at all about where I came from. I would expect them to have stereotypical views, and I would do my best to dispell them.

Looking at the other questions u asked, dont think u are aware of indian culture either. Indian women are supposed to be more demure, though I am not sure i like that much of docility n u can find tons of indian girls otherwise, but that is how atleast their culture expects them to be. Dont think u would fit into the stereotypical image of an indian girl. Btw, r u starved of ***** or attention or something, that is why u seem to be asking the questions u are!
